Amosun |
By Dare Olawin
It is unbelievable that some former local government chairmen, vice chairmen, SLGs, Councilors and other appointees, who were brought to limelight by Gov. Ibikunle Amosun, are the first category of people condemning him today; calling him many unprintable names.
Many of these former local government bosses were seen as inconsequential and having no electoral values by many politicians then, but the defiant Gov. Amosun 'handpicked' them and installed them as heads of the various local governments in Ogun.
Frankly speaking, most of these former local government heads were the reason why Amosun and Osoba slightly parted ways in 2012, before their marriage of convenience finally 'exploded' after that very APC congress.
Aspirants, who were loyal to the former governor were sidelined for those Amosun considered as his. He defied all threats by many ACN members to boycott the election or campaign against his anointed candidates. In fact, many aggrieved persons defected to another party, while many communal clashes erupted because Amosun imposed candidates on the people against their wishes.
In an election many considered to be marred with irregularities, Amosun's men took over the 20 local government secretariats and ruled for a term of three years. Some of them were also appointed as members of the caretaker committees that oversaw the affairs of the local governments before another election in 2016.
These local government bosses ruled without any appreciable projects executed during their tenure. The only song on their lips was "Amosun does not give us money."
Many of them, after they became chairmen started living ostentatious lifestyles; they started accumulating wealth. Some of them, who could not boast of a single bicycle started riding expensive cars. Those who once lived under their parents or in rented apartments are now landlords of multi-million naira mansions in places of choice. Many of them started traveling to foreign countries for relaxation and what have you. Inestimable are the thousands of naira the randy and promiscuous ones among them saved in 'private hairy banks'. Who wouldn't enjoy free public money?
But today, many of these former local government bosses are now stark enemies of their benefactor. You hear them saying "Amosun is bad, Amosun is wicked." But none of them has been able to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Amosun is indeed wicked or bad.
It is no more news that most of them, if not all, are now puppets to an Ogun State governorship aspirant; an enough reason for them to bad-mouth the man that made them.
There is nothing bad in supporting an aspirant of choice. After all, individual interest is of paramount importance in politics.
But the question is: Why is Amosun a bad person to them? Why do they hate him?
The general public seek to know.
