Ipokia set to elect new youth leaders



All is now set for the election of persons into the various offices under Ipokia Youth Development Council for another tenure of three years. 

The election would be held on May 28, 2016.

Ipokia Youth Development Council is an umbrella body for all Ipokia youths in Ipokia Local Government area of Ogun State.

Following the expiration of the tenure of the Ogunshina Adams-led executive, the committee concerned had mapped out strategies to ensure smooth transition to new executive members.

In a statement by the Secretary, Ipokia Youth Electoral Committee, IYECO, Comrade Falilu Agbetokun, sale of application forms for interested applicants shall commence on April 18 and end on May 6, 2016.

Agbetokun also revealed that registration of voters would be done on April 22, 23, 29, 30 and May 1, 2016. There would be a mop-up exercise on May 2.

According to the statement, all application forms must be submitted on or before May 10, 2016, while screening of candidates and manifesto would come up on May 14 and 21 respectively.

After taking care of other activities that might arise after the election, winners would be sworn in on June 4, 2016.

The statement reads in part:

Eligibility of voters

"voter must be indigene of Ipokia Town maternally, paternally or both. 

must present him or herself for screening and registration during the period stated above with valid means of identification which MUST be any or all of; National I.D card, INEC Voter’s card or Local Government letter of Identification or Attestation Letter from The Onipokia of Ipokia Land confirming the indigeneship of the person if such is controversial.  

Convicted indigenes or those under trials shall not be allowed to vote.

must be between the age of 18 and 45 years which must be validated with a document recognized by the Federal Republic of Nigeria presented during registration.

ELIGIBILITY OF CANDIDATES

The candidates shall represent the personality and image of Ipokia in the comity of other communities in Nigeria and beyond. By so doing, they should be able to meet certain criteria that portray Ipokia as a reference point in the local government. Therefore, the following shall spell the general guidelines as the minimum standard for contesting any office in IYDC:

Must be indigene of Ipokia Town paternally, maternally or both.

Those contesting as Chairman (Olori Odo), General Secretary and Treasurer MUST be residing in Ipokia Town in addition to meeting the above requirement. In the event of such an officer leaving for another place outside Ipokia Town for an adventure or career purposes for the period of more than two months, he/she shall inform the Reconciliation Committee of such and a decision shall be taken whether or not he should hand over to another officer. 

Must have minimum of Senior Secondary Certificate Examination or equivalent with an average good communication skill which will allow for easy interaction with stakeholders needed to uplift our town. 

Must be marry, dynamic, agile, honest, responsible and committed from his or her antecedents, pledge enough time to running the office and love the town’s development in all ramifications.

Convicted indigenes or those under trials shall not be allowed to contest an office.

Must be willing and ready to serve the good people of Ipokia Town.

All the aspirants must provide the details of their occupations and where they reside backed by an acceptable document like house rent receipts, Utility bills and Office I.D card.

Must participate in the Congress where his/ her manifesto for the developmental roadmaps for the town shall be made available to the whole town.

Any candidate who supplied information established to be false shall be disqualified from contesting in the election.

The guarantor for any candidate Must be indigene of Ipokia Town paternally, maternally or both who knows the candidate well and would be held liable for any act of lawlessness by the candidate before, during and after the election."
