When the struggle started in December 2016 with an announcement that the prestigious Moshood Abiola Polytechnic in Abeokuta would be moved to Ipokia to pave way for a university, many people thought it was a mere political gambit.
But we in Ipokia did not take the information for granted. We worked and prayed to God to make it a reality, and today, we have all reasons to smile and rejoice because Ogun State Polytechnic Ipokia has come to stay, to the glory of God.
While saying this, it is important we make it emphatically clear that some personalities deserve some accolades for the roles they played in the actualisation of the big project; this is aside from Gov. Ibikunle Amosun who has already won our hearts.
Top on the list is the Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Suraj Ishola Adekunbi. His efforts in making sure the bill establishing the polytechnic got accelerated passage into law is laudable and commendable.
In the course of the struggle, we were made to know there was pressure on Mr Speaker to step down the bill or to change the location of the polytechnic from Ipokia town to somewhere else. This, the true Yewa-born politician resisted as he made sure the bill was passed without any ambiguity about the location of the polytechnic. Adekunbi is truly a leader and we have no doubt in your ability to take us to the 'promised land'.
Adekunbi has written his name in gold, not on paper, but in our hearts and nothing can erase that. You have made us smile and may you continue to smile till the end of time. The state assembly under you will not crash and may God grant your heart desires. It shall be well with you.
Hon. Speaker, please accept this as a tribute of our thanks to you. You have demonstrated to us how much you love Ogun West and Ogun State in general. You are a leader with listening hears. You believe so much in justice, equity and fairness. It is self-evident that you have always been upholding the rule of law. Little wonder, the state assembly has been springing wonders under you. The sky is your limit. Keep it up, Sir.
When we came for the Stakeholders Forum, we made known our requests, we made some recommendations. We requested that our heart desires be captured in the law establishing the polytechnic, and we are happy this has come to pass with the announcement of our own Ambassador Adesola Abolurin as the Chairman, Governing Council.
For this, we appreciate the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Taiwo Oluomo, who presided over the forum as well as other lawmakers in attendance, especially our own Hon. Adebowale Ojo.
Hon. Oluomo displayed unprecedented managerial and leadership skills in coordinating proceedings at the Stakeholders forum. He is no doubt an embodiment of wisdom. We owe you debts of gratitude.
To all the lawmakers, we are indebted to you. You have all made history as the lawmakers who established the new polytechnic. Your names are engraved in our hearts. We have started on a good note and together we shall get to the promised land.
Thank you and God bless.
