The lawmaker representing Yewa South and Ipokia Federal Constituency, Hon. Adekunle Akinlade, has made known his intention to succeed Gov. Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State come 2019.

Akinlade, fondly addressed as Triple A, made his guber ambition known during a stakeholders meeting recently with his constituents.

The Agosasa-born politician said his desire to vie for the state's number one seat was born out of the need to step into the big shoes Amosun would be leaving behind in 2019.

According to the lawmaker, he had not discussed his ambition personally with the governor, but he however said he (Amosun) would have heard about it from his fellow lawmakers who he said were parts of the plan since inception; adding that he would inform him in due time.

In his words, Akinlade revealed he was contesting the much coveted seat based on the governor's support for an Ogun West candidate in the next general elections.

He sought the supports of all indigenes and residents in the state, saying "I will not disappoint you."

Ogun West is the only zone that has not produced a governor of Ogun since the  state was created 41 years ago. As a result, Amosun has vowed to make sure he would be succeeded by an Ogun West person.

It was learnt that the duo of Amosun and Akinlade have good personal relationship that might make him Amosun's most preferred candidate.

An anonymous source revealed that Akinlade might be favoured by Amosun above other aspirants.

With Akinlade's declaration, an aspirant from Ipokia Local Government is joining the race that already has other contesters like Gboyega Isiaka from Imeko Afon; Abiodun Akinlade and Solomon Adeola from Yewa South; Speaker Suraj Adekunbi and Tolu Odebiyi from Yewa North among others from within and outside Ogun West.
