Ambode

Elected local government chairmen and their councillors in Lagos State would now be spending four years in office instead of three years. LTV reports.

This followed the passage of a bill to amend the Lagos State local government administration law yesterday by the state's governor, Akinwunmi Ambode.

The bill, a few weeks ago, had earlier been passed into law at plenary after the House took the third reading of the bill.

After the report had been laid by the chairman of the committee on local government administration and community affairs, Hon. Kazeem Alimi.

The House took the presentation of the report and the third reading and subsequently passed it into law before it was sent to the governor for his assent.

The law is now titled: “The Local Government (Administration) (Amendment) Law 2016."

Having signed the bill into law by the state governor, local council chairmen and councillors will now spend four years tenure instead of the current three years.

Section 24A (I-3)states that: “The House of Assembly may after necessary investigation pass a resolution by simple majority of members for the removal or suspension of any chairman, vice chairman or elected official of any local government area or local council development area in the interest of peace, order and good government of the state.
